Interview with Kim Rees
MC: Start off by telling us about you. Who is Kim Rees?
I’m a UK writer who came to writing romance late. I’ve been writing for a long time, LOL, but only in the last few years did I discover the missing ingredient in my stories: Romance. So, I started to write contemporaries, Samhain said yes to them… And I haven’t looked back.
MC: Do you have any hobbies or special interests? If so, how do they influence your writing?
I love history. My house is crammed with reference books. When on holiday, I drag my other half around castles and museums. I also write fantasy, so all this research comes in useful. That’s what I tell him anyway. For my contemporary romances, I’m partial to a country home or two and the free read on my website has some rather… interesting… goings on in a pyramid…
MC: Tell us about your book, Past Lies. Sounds intriguing! How did you come up with the idea for the book?
The lies were no protection. Not anymore…
Past Lies is the story of Zach and Anna, a couple with a raw history. Lies and an unwanted and overwhelming attraction means they’ve stayed out of each other’s lives for six long years. However, the death of Anna’s brother-in-law throws them back together. There’s a will, and each of them has what the other wants. To solve this, the will states that they must spend the week together… or lose everything.
And that’s when the fun starts… *grin*
Past Lies started with the image of a couple in a solicitor’s office. I knew both of them had what the other wanted and because family and business were interlinked, they would have a history. It grew out from there!
MC: What’s coming up next from you? Should we mark our calendars? Any upcoming events, chats, that sort of thing .
I’m a co-founder of the Daughters of Circe (www.daughtersofcirce.com ) and we have monthly events called Feasts on our yahoo group. It’s a time to hang out on our group with no author promos and just chat about what we love, or hate LOL, in books, films and TV series. The last one was a sci-fi, paranormal is coming up and I think it’s murder and mayhem after that.
MC: Now for some fun questions. If you could have any special power, what would it be?
With my obsession with history, it would have to be power to travel through time. How cool would it be experience the Forum in Rome at the time of Augustus? Visit China during the Ming Dynasty? Or jump to the future and get some winning lottery numbers… *grin*
MC: Five words that describe you?
Quirky. Adventurous. Determined. Family-oriented. Artistic.
MC: Anyone who’s been to my myspace page knows I love two things. First of all, peaches. Do you have a favorite food? Fruit? What beverage do you always have on hand while you’re writing?
Cherries and Greek yogurt is completely addictive. Mix in a dollop of honey and I’m not going anywhere for a while, LOL. And I love my English breakfast tea, it’s got that nice little kick to it as coffee makes me fall asleep. Apparently, I have odd brain chemistry, LOL
MC: The other thing I love… okay, I’m slightly obsessed with is flip flops. Do you have any obsessions? Collections?
I have an obsession with Stargate and with Jack O’Neill in particular. I can also broaden that to impossibly attractive men. One of the fun things about writing is that I present my heroines with a man you can happily drool over *grin*
MC: What’s something that your readers may not know about you?
Something not generally known… Hmmm Well, I also write under another name: Kim Knox. It’s usually dark fantasy with a dash of sex and great fun to write. It’s a nice balance. Swirling emotion for my contemporaries; murder and magic for my sff stories.
MC: What is your writing schedule like?
I have a 5 year old with special needs and a 3 year old so I usually grab time when I can during the day. I’m most awake in the evening, after they’ve gone to bed, LOL so I try to write then too.
MC: How can readers (or anyone else) get in touch with you?
My website is www.kim-rees.co.uk and my email is kim@kim-rees.co.uk.
I also have a blog: www.romancefiction.blogspot.com called ‘I really should be writing’.
And I’ve attempted Myspace, LOL: www.myspace.com/kimjrees .
