Interview With Lise Fuller

MC: Start off by telling us about you. Who is Lise Fuller?

Who? God, do I know? I get lost in so many worlds… Okay, in reality, I love my family and love my life. Writing is fun for me and I hope it shows in my work. My husband is in the Army and I have four children, three which are out of the house. Before I quit work to just write, I’d earned my MBA and CPA and was a manager in a consulting firm with good propects of becoming a partner.

MC: Do you have any hobbies or special interests? If so, how do they influence your writing?

I’ve become a fitness addict–not that I have the perfect body or anything, but I love working out and lift weights about four times a week. In fact, I’m sort of like a reformed chocoholic or something. (If you’re interested in why I started working out, please see my fitness page at www.lisefuller.com/fitness. I also started a fitness blog called Lise’s Fitness Tips for the average, everyday women like us. I try to post three times a week but some of that depends on my writing schedule. (See my blog at www.lisestips.blogspot.com!) And I’ve done three shows–bodybuilding-type competitions. I also love the outdoors and adventures! As well as crocheting, reading (of course!) and scrapbooking, but I never seem to have the time for those anymore.

MC: Tell us about your book On Danger’s Edge. Sounds like I’ll be holding on to the edge of my seat. How did you come up with the idea for the book?

Hmmm, probably the best way to tell you about On Danger’s Edge is to provide a blurb! Here it is:

Fear be damned…

Is the code photojournalist Rorie Lindsay lives by. Free of her abusive ex-husband, she celebrates her divorce with a one-night stand then heads to her next photo shoot in the Panamanian jungles, thirsting for adventure. Finally sensing her life is her own, Rorie relishes her autonomy until guerillas take her small troupe captive. Now, in order to survive, she must match wits with the soldier who came to save her—Chief Warrant Officer Tom MacCallum, the same stranger she’d spent one incredible night with.

Tom couldn’t forget the passionate brunette he’d bedded—a vain attempt to assuage his guilt over a comrade’s death. Like his father several years before, Tom had been unable to save his friend. Driven in his Special Forces missions, the failures haunt his private life. Because loved ones die, he’s refused to commit himself to a woman. Still, he longed for something with Rorie. Unable to find her again, he’s encouraged when he sees she’s in the party he’s rescuing—until the rescue effort goes awry and he finds the terrorists hot on their trail. Now, both their lives and their destinies are…

…on danger’s edge.

I really wanted to capture the intense emotions that occured between Rorie and Tom. As to how I came up with the idea? It’s the same with most of my books. I dreamed this intense scene–and keep adding on to it somehow. Then I wake up. I always have an idea of the plot–just an upper-level outline but I detail the characters and their issues.

MC: What’s coming up next from you? Should we mark our calendars? Any upcoming events, chats, that sort of thing.

Well, I have two other books out — Cutting Loose is available in print and is simply a fun romp between a nerdy zoologist and an ex-pro ballplayer hero who started his own successful firm but has issues about his maleness of his own. Then there’s Intimate Deceptions, a sequel to On Danger’s Edge. I’m working on another “On Danger’s Edge” type book right now.

As to chats and stuff, I’ve got an author day planned for the 19th on the Romance Excerpts Only loop on yahoo and I’ll be at the Colorado Romance Writers convention on Friday, May 11 signing my two books in print.

MC: Now for some fun questions. If you could have any special power, what would it be?

I think to make everyone happy and have peace in their lives. Make them realize what a treasure this life is.

MC: Five words that describe you?

Oh boy. Ahhh, errr–intelligent, fun, happy, loving and cool. How’s that?

MC: Anyone who’s been to my myspace page knows I love two things. First of all, peaches. Do you have a favorite food? Fruit? What beverage do you always have on hand while you’re writing?

Good question! I love peaches too. In fact, I think I love all fruits. Can’t think of one I don’t like. Probably my favorite food is chocolate, and I’ve found creative ways to keep it in my diet! But, mostly, I’m drinking coffee when I’m writing. :-)))

MC: The other thing I love… okay, I’m slightly obsessed with is flipflops. Do you have any obsessions? Collections?

Hmmm, obessions….the outdoors? I love studying new places and cultures–being with the people that live there. That’s an expensive habit though. As to collections, I used to collect things–oh, wait a minute, yes! I love pottery, especially teapots & cups. And I love little cottages that I decorate my house with.

MC: What’s something that your readers may not know about you?

LOL! You ask tough questions. I don’t know, perhaps, that I have a certain spirituality. It isn’t new age or anything and I profess to be a Christian but I don’t look down or even try to negate any one else’s beliefs. It’s such a personal thing and I believe we are supposed to believe different things. I think of God as a finely cut diamond. And we only get to see one, at most two facets in it. Yet, someone else is on the other side of it, looking in as we are, seeing something completely different. Ever look juse through the different facets of a diamond? Each one shows you something different. It doesn’t make one view better or the next–it’s just different, yet it’s the same stone.

MC: What is your writing schedule like?

Hectic right now, especially since I just got back from the Romantic Times convention, but usually I like to write at night when the day is ended and I can relax a bit more.

MC: How can readers (or anyone else) get in touch with you?

I love to hear from readers! Please email me at lise@lisefuller.com!
